The club has set out to make it as simple<br />

as possible for people to give the sport a try<br />

and also offers bike and helmet hire for $2<br />

per item.<br />

“BMX is for anyone who wants to give it<br />

a go,” says Hamilton BMX Club. “You don't<br />

have to be experienced to start out, we have<br />

riders aged from two-years-old on balance<br />

bikes to those aged 65+ on pedal bikes.<br />

“To start out you can use your everyday<br />

bike or hire one, but riders must be fully<br />

covered with long pants, long sleeve top, covered<br />

shoes and must have a full face helmet.<br />

“It’s all about getting involved and trying<br />

it out.”<br />

Riders can join in for fun and fitness, or<br />

compete at club level or nationally. The level<br />

of involvement is up to the involvement.<br />

“We consider our club to be very family<br />

orientated and support all our riders.”<br />

The season kicks off in August and continues<br />

through until mid-May so now is an<br />

ideal time to get involved. Training sessions<br />

are available to help members learn new<br />

skills<br />

The Hamilton BMX Club is part of the<br />

Waikato Region BMX which is made up of<br />

several clubs: Te Awamutu BMX Club, Cambridge<br />

BMX Club, Paeroa BMX Club and Te<br />

Kuiti BMX Club.<br />

At the recent <strong>2017</strong> UCI BMX World<br />

Championships in Rockhill, USA, a number<br />

of riders from Hamilton BMX Club were<br />

involved, including Jessie Smith, who won<br />

the overall World Championship title in her<br />

class and Jason Kelly who finished fifth in the<br />

Masters division.<br />
