5 Day Outdoor Education Experience

different terrains to explore and soak it all in.

About Hillary Outdoors Great Barrier Island Program
The setting is truly breath-taking, surrounded by pristine forests
and oceans. The landscape is outstanding; from rugged to
serene for adrenaline-filled and tranquil adventures too. Hillary
Outdoors has an unbelievable 230 hectare private property
and secluded bay located at Karaka.
The Great Barrier Island adventure is underpinned by the
strength and determination that drove Sir Edmund Hillary to
triumph on his journey to the summit of Mount Everest.
Students learn how to work closely together, as they navigate
the coastline, explore the forests, learn how to kayak as well
as coasteering, go sailing, rock climbing, abseiling and surf
kayaking! The ultimate adventure quest awaits them.
The Hauraki Gulf is the ideal environment for students to
learn the dynamics and advantages of team work, achieve a
greater insight into the roles they take on in their teams and
have the
chance to develop outdoor skills.
Students will also learn about teamwork, outdoor skills,
responsibility, leadership, perseverance as well as their impact on
those around them. Through the activities, young adventurers
will strengthen connections to themselves, their peers and the
environment too.

Determination and strength of character will form the basis of
this elite experience. They will become culturally aware, work

Activities
Trust and Team Building
As they make the most of the outstanding
local area, students go through a series of
trust and team building activities as well
as learning to solve problems, no matter
how challenging.
Steep Creeping
Here everyone works together, to lead
their peers down the Okiwi Stream,
abseiling down cliffs and importantly
learning how to take safety precautions
for the benef it of all around them.
Sea Kayaking
The sea awaits patiently for students, as
they learn the basics of sea kayaking. They
will learn how to gear up for kayaking,
how to be safe in and around their kayaks
and the sea too.

Activities
Coasteering
Green Island is the destination of the day,
as they sea kayak out to this impressive
island and learn how to navigate their way
around rocky coastlines. Climbing,
jumping and swimming will take pride
of place on this adventurous day.
Rock climbing ,
Abseiling and via-ferrata
Students take to the skies abseiling,
feeling exposed, which allows them to
conquer mind over matter. They learn to
trust themselves and team mates too. They
will also rock climb. The via-ferrata is the
next challenge as they clip themselves
onto steel cables and negotiate their way
to the top of Three Kings.
Bush Skill Adventures
Here they are the masters of their own
adventures, as they explore the stunning
natural environments around Great
Barrier Island, learning the way of the
bush, exploring the flora and fauna and
learning important bush skills.

Activities
Expeditions
An exciting overnight camping trip awaits,
as students explore the rugged coastline
of Great Barrier Island once again, taking
advantage of the world away from the
hustle and bustle of a city. They will stop
to relax and indulge in a bit of fishing
along the way.
Snorkeling
Students kayak up to rocky shorelines,
near beaches, where marine life is
abundant. The waters are calm, at an
overhead depth. The more challenging
snorkeling areas will only be utilized for
experienced snorkelers.
Sailing
Who doesn’t like to sail along the glorious
waters in a bay? This is an amazing
experience, where students learn to sail
on a self-bailing two person dinghy. If
they’re not experienced, there’s an
outboard powered support vessel right
on hand to save the day.

A Day in the Life
Adventure awaits
• 6:30am –Wake up to take part in kitchen duty
responsibilities. Preparation, clean-up and preparing
lunch are all included.
• 7:30am – A hearty breakfast is served.
• 8am to 9am – Housekeeping duties.
• 9am to 5pm – Outdoors to the great wilderness. Lunch and
snacks are served.
• 6pm – Dinner is served, sampling some New Zealand
delights.
• 8pm – Evening activities are arranged to encourage
relaxation, bonding and fun.
• 10:30pm – Lights out.
• When overnighting, they will be away from the center with
their own dedicated and knowledgeable instructor and
experience a night under the magical New Zealand sky.

Safety
Assurance
Hillary Outdoors has a Safety Management Plan that everyone
has a responsibility towards including instructors and students
too. They take safety very seriously so that each and every
student will experience the best out of this amazing adventure.
Everyone commits and complies with the safety regulations
and staff are all physically and mentally fit to do their jobs. All
staff are trained and have the necessary skills to ensure the
safety of program participants. They leave no stone unturned
as they seek out knowledge of weather conditions, the
environment, any access problems and will put a stop to
activities if there are any dangers lurking.
This amazing adventure that your teenager will embark upon
is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will never be forgotten,
and there will be no regrets as you watch your young student
develop and grow emotionally and physically. They will
experience real-life adventures that will lead them on a journey
of discovering themselves!
Your teenagers will be kept well out of harm’s way, so rest
assured, as we have an excellent safety track record and take
safety very seriously.

as specif ied. Payments by credit card or direct bank transfer will
incur an additional 3-5% fee.

Terms and Conditions
50% payable on booking, balance due 30 days prior to arrival date. Credit card bookings incur an additional 5% booking fee. Int ernational bank deposit incurs a
3-5% bank fee. All prices exclusive of New Zealand Goods and Services Tax of 15%. Packages do not include travel to and from NZ or throughout NZ. Applicants
must have parental consent and medical consent. Full and comprehensive travel insurance recommended.
Booking and Payment
On confi rmation of a final outdoor adventure booking, the client agrees to pay a 50% non-refundable booking fee. This will allow Black Label Experience Ltd to make the
necessary bookings for the outdoor adventure to ensure firm bookings are held for the client. The final non-refundable payment of the final balance is due one month before
the outdoor adventure or on arrival in New Zealand. Black Label Experience Ltd has the right to cancel any arrangements and bookings made for the client if full payment
is not received before the event or arrival in country and will treat the trip/event as a canceled booking until full payment is received.
