Outdoors Adventure Tongariro Program

Outdoors Adventure Tongariro Program
They will work in small groups with a highly-skilled instructor
and will create remarkable bonds to develop trust, self-belief and
passion. As they live, work and play with others, they will belong
to a community andunderstand how they contribute directly to
the overall success and how they can make a difference in other
people’s lives.
As they enter the great, wild wilderness, they will experience
a glimpse of times gone by, without any digital distractions,
just plain, simple and meaningful living in one of the most
beautiful areas of New Zealand.
Students will get to go on epic adventures in Tongariro National
Park, snow sporting adventures during the winter season at
Mt Ruapehu or white water rafting on the Tongariro River.
Tongariro National Park, was the first National Park in
New Zealand and the fourth in the world.

for anything during their adventurous journey, in a challenging, yet safe

About Hillary Outdoors Tongariro Program
Established in 1887, Tongariro was the first National Park in
New Zealand. It is also a dual World Heritage area recognizing
the Park’s important Maori cultural and spiritual associations,
as well as its outstanding volcanic features in an area surrounded
by lakes, rivers, mountains and native bush.
This is an inspirational adventure, which has its roots firmly
planted in the determination and strength that pushed Sir
Edmund Hillary to conquer the summit of Mount Everest.
The Hillary Outdoor Pursuits Centre was created over 40 years
ago, through the collaboration of New Zealand’s most famous
mountaineers and adventurers, Sir Edmund Hillary and
Graeme Dingle.
This epic adventure will see your teenager’s abseiling, rock climbing, caving,
kayaking, mastering high ropes, learning bush skills, camping and hiking
some of the world’s most stunning mountains. Astounding beauty like this
will be hard to find, with the Hillary Outdoors Tongariro Program located
in a beautiful wilderness area of the Central North Island.
Students work in teams, learn to trust fellow adventurers, solve
problems, and challenge themselves physically, reaching
beyond their comfort zone. This is a once-in-a-lifetime

What can you expect?
Students are given the opportunity to make sense of their lives
and dream about the possibilities that their bright future’s hold
as they form new friendships with other students, immerse
themselves in another culture, learn the value of working
together, build leadership skills and see the magnificence that
nature holds for them. They learn to face challenges on their
own, and importantly, they learn how to solve them; an
outstanding skill for future success.

All students alike will develop determination and
strength of character to conquer their worlds.
Your young students will learn important life skills like being
outstanding in every way and being the best they can be. They
will take ownership and responsibility for their actions and
the consequences thereof. Personal integrity will be right at
the core of their being, as they understand how important it is
to honor their word to all those around them. They will
persevere in the face of adversity; have courage and compassion
not only for people but for the environment too.

Activities
Outdoor Activity Days
Experience the exciting outdoors through a
mountain or climbing day, caving and abseiling
or perhaps a peaceful kayak or canoe ride on
enchanting lakes. There are boundless activities
to choose from, and these will be chosen
dependent on the weather. Days will be filled
with adventure, fun, courage, cultural
experiences as well as environmental awareness.
Activity Based Learning
Students engage in ice-breaker and warm up exercises,
Activity Based Learning (ABL) games which include
trust, communication, initiative and problem solving,
basic navigation training and practical bush tramping
skills. Exciting experiences include high ropes and low
ropes, a Flying Fox thrill ride, where they f ly in a
harness which is attached to a fixed cable above the
Mangatepopo River. Their trusty team mates will pull
them back to the beginning for the next thrill seeker.
Mountain Day
The challenge awaits your young explorer. The
theme of the day is to summit a peak within
the Tongariro National Park or even a smaller
peak in the local bush. This experience will
teach them to work as a team, trust their
instincts and grow physically and emotionally
as they reach those dizzying heights.

Activities
Overnight Expeditions
Experience the beauty of the outdoors at
night, whether it isin the bush, a mountain
or on a lake. This will depend on weather
and of course the ability of the students.
These last for two days with a single night
camp out for enjoyment and adventure.
Water Day
Expect your students to enjoy the
unbelievable sights and sounds on the water
during summer as they go caving, single
tube floating on a local stream teeming with
life, kayaking and canoeing on the impressive
lakes and experience sit-on-top kayaks.
Snow Day
This four day course is for intermediate to
advanced skiers or boarders who wish to
leave the ski area boundary and carve up
the untracked powder slopes. This is a
physically challenging course which will
take advantage of the exquisite backcountry
and slack country terrain of Mount Ruapehu.

A Day in the Life
Nature’s Beauty
What can your teenagers expect from the Tongariro Outdoor
Youth Development Program on a daily basis?
They will be out in the wilderness, enjoying the beauty of
nature with their instructors from 9am to 5pm each day.
Lunch and snacks are included to keep up those energy
levels and they get to savor the taste of the special and
famous Dingle biscuit.
• When overnighting, they will be away from the center
with their own dedicated and knowledgeable instructor
while they experience a night under the magical
New Zealand sky.
• Expect an early start of 6:30am, as each student is involved in
kitchen duties, where preparation and cleaning-up is included.
• They will take part in housekeeping duties, preparing
them for the world out there.
• A hearty breakfast is served at 7:30am, to prepare them
for the day ahead.
• Dinner is served at 6:30pm as they sample some real
New Zealand delights.
• Special evening activities are planned each night from around
8pm, encouraging students to bond with each other, have
some fun and relax after their adventurous days!

Assurance
Hillary Outdoors has a Safety Management Plan that everyone
has a responsibility towards including instructors and students
too. They take safety very seriously so that each and every
student will experience the best out of this amazing adventure.
Everyone commits and complies with the safety regulations
and staff are all physically and mentally fit to do their jobs.
All staff are trained and have the necessary skills to ensure the
safety of program participants. They leave no stone unturned
as they seek out knowledge of weather conditions, the
environment, any access problems and will put a stop to
activities if there are any dangers lurking.
Safety is our number one concern and you can rest assured
that every precaution will be taken to keep your children out
of harm’s way.
When embarking on this amazing journey of a lifetime, young
students are part of the special community and are encouraged
to make positive contributions to the community as a whole
and the environment around them. This is a journey of
discovery that you will never regret, giving your kids a taste
of the best things in life.

incur an additional 3-5% fee.

Terms and Conditions
50% payable on booking, balance due 30 days prior to arrival date. Credit card bookings incur an additional 5% booking fee. Int ernational bank deposit incurs a
3-5% bank fee. All prices exclusive of New Zealand Goods and Services Tax of 15%. Packages do not include travel to and from NZ or throughout NZ. Applicants
must have parental consent and medical consent. Full and comprehensive travel insurance recommended.
Booking and Payment
On confi rmation of a final outdoor adventure booking, the client agrees to pay a 50% non-refundable booking fee. This will allow Black Label Experience Ltd to make the
necessary bookings for the outdoor adventure to ensure firm bookings are held for the client. The final non-refundable payment of the final balance is due one month before
the outdoor adventure or on arrival in New Zealand. Black Label Experience Ltd has the right to cancel any arrangements and bookings made for the client if full payment
is not received before the event or arrival in country and will treat the trip/event as a canceled booking until full payment is received.
