Paul Barnard
Ward Security has
appointed Paul Barnard in
the role of security, risk and
mitigation director. In this
newly-created role, Barnard
will be actively involved in
security risk assessment
and management as well as
the design of effective client
contingency planning.
Barnard has spent the last 27 years working
for the City of London Police and was latterly
Detective Chief Superintendent for the Crime
Directorate where he served as head of serious
and organised crime investigations.
During his time with the City of London
Police, Barnard operated at the highest level,
establishing key relationships with senior policy
advisors, briefing ministers and working with
officials at the Home Office. He has also been at
the forefront of delivering new and proactive
solutions to crime and, for the last four years,
has been involved in the creation of national
security strategies designed to mitigate,
prepare for and protect against terrorism.
Barnard will now work alongside the
operations team, taking up his duties in January
2018. In his new position at Ward Security,
Barnard aims to ensure the implementation of
cost-effective and efficient measures configured
to protect the personnel, assets and reputation
of clients’ businesses, focus on planning,
designing and implementing overall security
risk management processes and also immerse
himself in the detail of client contingency
planning procedures.

David Smyth
ASSA ABLOY Access Control has strengthened
its team by appointing a new regional sales
manager and business development executive.
As regional sales manager, David Smyth will
be responsible for identifying and qualifying
new sales channels, developing and
integrating new OEM partners, providing
support to systems integrators and
strengthening all working relationships with
the company’s existing customers.
Smyth was appointed as a technical
engineer in October 2016 and responsible for
managing technical enquiries and resolving
issues for customers. He also led training

John Houghton
Elmdene International – a supplier of electronic
products to the CCTV, access control and fire
sectors for over 50 years – is pleased to
announce an addition to the business that
completes the company’s UK sales team. John
Houghton has joined as regional sales manager
tasked with looking after Northern UK.
Houghton will be leading Elmdene’s growth
within the region by continuing the delivery of a
first class service for both new and existing
customers. Houghton comes to Elmdene with
over 20 years’ experience in the UK’s security
industry having worked in sales and business
development management positions focused
around the distribution and integration of
intruder and access control products.
Sharon Ramsay, general manager at Elmdene
International, said: “Customer service and
growing our business is the core focus of
everything that we do. John brings a wealth of
experience from the industry to support that
focus, further adding to the skills and
knowledge of our existing sales team. His
appointment means that we now have a
dedicated focus in the North of the UK. I know
John will be a great asset to Elmdene.”

Prior to her promotion, Jones worked as a
marketing assistant for ASSA ABLOY, helping
to deliver the group’s marketing activities and
implement marketing strategy.
