SUPPLIED
Ludidi’s candid life story of
ups, downs set for launch
MADELEINE
CHAPUT
FIRST time author,
Amandla Ludidi
(pictured) will be
launching her
autobiographical book
tonight at the Mr Hyde
restaurant and pub.
Her book, titled I
Learned to Pray,
chronicles Ludidi's
battles through a myriad
of trying experiences –
including a drug
addiction and divorce.
“Writing was always
one of my favourite
pastimes and I had won a
poetry award and recited
poetry at a few school
events in high school, but
it was only this year, after
a series of bad
experiences that I
decided to write a book,”
Ludidi said.
Born in Durban, Ludidi
moved to East London at
the age of five with her
family. She completed
her schooling at Victoria
Girls' High School and
attended Nelson Mandela
University in 2008.
Following a series of
difficult experiences,
Ludidi did not complete
her Sports Management
Diploma, returning to
East London in 2009.
She now runs the
Sports and Fitness
section for personal
wellness company,
LAMSA Trading and
Projects, Ludidi started
with her parents. She is
also currently studying IT
at Walter Sisulu
Universit y.
“I learnt through the
difficulties I had that
anybody can come out of
any experience a better
person. I came out a
better person because
rather than choosing to
give up on life, I chose to
pray and find my
process.”
Already working on her
next book, Ludidi plans to
do a book tour as well as
youth motivation
sessions and high school
visits starting early next
y e a r.
“Writing this book was
the most emotionally
draining experience I
have ever encountered. I
had to uncover myself
fully to open up to the
world about everything
that I am and have ever
been,
“As draining as it was,
I felt like a brand new
person as soon as I typed
the last word,” she said.
To purchase a copy of
the book for more
information, please
contact Ludidi at
