Potterco Real Estate: the newest locally
owned and operated brokerage in Lockport
What makes Potterco different?
“Everything,” broker/owner Cari Potter
said. “Of course, we have financial goals
as a sustainable business, but our mission
to connect with people and businesses in
the community weighs just as heavily in
our business model. I currently serve as a
[board director] for the Lockport Chamber
of Commerce. It’s been a gratifying
experience to work with other businesses
in the community who have a vested interest
in sustainable responsible growth in
Lockport. I wish more businesses recognized
the importance of becoming actively
involved in their local chamber.”
A large percentage of Potterco’s business
comes from repeat clients and referrals.
“I can’t tell you how much we appreciate
that type of business,” Potter said.
“Because of our repeat business, I don’t
have to spend time chasing new business
or pay for expensive prospecting. I don’t
sling deals. I build relationships, one by
one, and help those who need me when it
comes to buying and selling homes.”
Potterco also markets commercial properties
locally and provides property management
services. Potterco offers buyers
and sellers the same experience and level
of marketing offered by larger brokerages
and are members of the local, state
and national realtor associations, and thus
they have the same tools and resources as
franchises.
Potter started her now 10-year real estate
career right as the market was crashing
in 2007. What was supposed to be a
two-year transition of selling real estate
on the side (while also working full time
in the legal field) turned into seven long
years of working two jobs.
“I was with a major real estate franchise
for nine of those years, and after four
years of being a full time agent I decided
to build a brand that reflects my personal
values and everything that’s important to
me,” Potter said. “Family. Home. Community.
Sustainability. Better business.
Organic growth.”
Potter’s husband, Ed Peterson, joined
Potterco earlier this year, and the couple
has been learning to work as a team —
both at work and home.
Cari added, “We’re also working on our
own home and garden to maximize the
enjoyment of our home and our health.
I want to help people understand the importance
of adapting to a simpler lifestyle.
That’s not what drew us to Lockport, but
it’s what’s keeping us here.”
