Joint government effort focuses
on Small Business Saturday
The City of Lockport, the Lockport
Chamber of Commerce, the Lockport
Township Park District and Lockport
Township Government have collaborated
for the past three years to bring awareness
to the Small Business Saturday movement
during the annual Christmas in the Square
event, and the 2017 season celebrates the
fourth year of the joint effort.
This family-oriented event full of holiday-themed
activities is to take place from
1-4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at Central
Square, 222 E. 9th St. in Lockport.
In addition, attendees are treated to a
goody bag full of promotional items from
Lockport’s local businesses to encourage
shopping small, shopping local and shopping
Lockport.
The coalition is also celebrating the second
annual Passport to Christmas in the Square
program, in which local downtown businesses
will open their doors and host family
activities to connect with residents and
encourage shopping local. Passports can be
picked up at Central Square and at participating
businesses. They can then be stamped
and exchanged for entry into a raffle.
Embers one of Lockport’s bright spots
after rising from building’s ashes
Located in the heart of Lockport, Embers
Tap House is one of the area’s most
popular spots.
Embers Tap House was born in June
2015, with its opening at the very start of
Canal Days. The Volz Building sat empty
for eight years after a fire destroyed the
building, leaving a vacancy in the revitalization
of downtown Lockport. Through
a collaborative effort with the community,
Embers rose from the ashes to become an
anchor on State Street.
Employing more than 75 people from
the community, designed and built from
all local contractors, with materials
sourced from local businesses, Embers is
here for the community and continues to
give back to the community. The unique
and historical ambiance creates the perfect
backdrop for the next formal event or
the next casual drink with friends.
For those looking for a unique and versatile
private space to host the next party,
celebration, bash or formal event, Embers
Banquet Center offers the perfect solution.
Embers’ naturally historic yet chic
A Christmas Wagon is slated to be
available to ride to stops in town, and the
entire downtown Lockport area will be
alive with the holiday spirit.
The Christmas in the Square event also
kicks off a season of holiday shopping. Continuing
the initiative through the holiday season,
participating Lockport businesses will be
offering a unique special or free gift to potential
customers as a thank you for choosing to shop
local, shop small or shop Lockport. A list of
participating businesses and their promotions
will be available at the Christmas in the Square
event, on the City of Lockport website (www.
cityoflockport.net), the Lockport Chamber of
Commerce website (www.lockportchamber.
com) and in this publication.
