Santa Claus is coming to
New Lenox for Christmas
in the Commons
Mayor Tim Baldermann and the Village
of New Lenox are excited to announce the
return of Christmas in the Commons for
the 2017 holiday season.
The spectacular display of lights highlighted
by the largest illuminated Santa
Claus in the United States will return to
the New Lenox Village Commons for its
second year, accompanied by a full calendar
of holiday activities.
The holiday light display is to begin
lighting up the Village Commons Dec.
3, with dazzling drapes of lights and
life-sized displays that will transform
the Commons into a winter wonderland.
Santa Claus is to stand nearly 40 feet tall,
with 18,500 LED lights, and his special
mailbox to the North Pole will sit at his
feet. Visitors will have the opportunity to
mail letters to Santa, and all letters mailed
by Dec. 17 will receive a response from
St. Nick.
Also returning to the Commons will be
a synthetic ice skating rink, presented in
part by the New Lenox Community Park
District. Standard skates can be used on
the rink, and guests are encouraged to
bring their own skates, though a limited
supply will be available to rent during select
hours.
New to Christmas in the Commons
this year is a holiday market, taking place
weekends from Dec. 3 through Dec. 23.
Guests will find a new variety of vendors
each weekend, offering homemade and
artisanal wares for sale. People can stop
by to find unique gifts for family and
friends while supporting small businesses
in a beautiful holiday atmosphere.
All the fun begins Dec. 3 with the
Christmas in the Commons Kick-off
Celebration from 2-6 p.m. in the Village
Commons. The kick-off will include a
visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, an appearance
by Santa’s reindeer, holiday performances
and more. The day will culminate
with the official throwing of the
switch to light up the Commons with the
holiday lights.

admission ticket is required. The Village
Commons is located at 101 Veterans
