Tinley’s Pop’s Italian Beef & Sausage ready for the holidays

menu this holiday season.
The Pop’s Italian Beef &
Sausage Tinley Park location
has been making the
holidays special with its
delicious catering offerings
since 2009. Focusing
on high quality food with
affordable prices, Pop’s be
a part of everyone’s celebrations
this season.
“Christmas Eve is our
busiest day of the year,”
owner Burke Matyas said.
“People especially love
our beef and chicken for
their holiday gatherings.
“Every 15 minutes, we
are cooking 120 pieces of
chicken, so call early for a
prime spot. Some people
who have made our food
a tradition are calling a
month in advance every
year.”
Pop’s famous chicken is
pressure-cooked to make
it more moist and delicious,
which is why it is so
popular among customers.
Also, all the beef is cooked
and sliced daily and has
been since the first Pop’s
opened its doors in Palos
Heights in 1980.
Pop’s offers a variety of
catering packages which
include Italian beef, Italian
sausage, chicken, baked
mostaccioli, and sausage
and meatball trays.
Delicious catering services
are not all Pop’s is
known for. Pop’s in Tinley
Park also is part of the
hot lunch program for area
schools, and offers a fundraising
program that gives
back 20 percent of its profits
that day to the participating
nonprofit group.
Pop’s daily specials
and text messaging promotions
also make Pop’s
in Tinley Park a popular
lunch destination. At 9:30
a.m. every Monday, a text
message promotion is sent
to 26,000 phone numbers
of people who opted into
the program by texting the
word POPS (in all capital
letters) to 95577. The specials
are good for Monday
and Tuesday, and generally
rotate between the
same popular offerings.
The menu items include;
cheeseburger ($2.25), beef
sandwich ($3.50), Italian
sausage sandwich ($2.99),
gyros sandwich ($3.50),
breaded steak sandwich
($2.99), and all-beef hot
dog ($2.25).
There are always two
different specials every
day of the week. Also,
every order comes with a
brightly colored coupon
for a customer’s next visit.
For the most part, all
Pop’s stores offer the
same menu, but at Tinley
Park people can also order
a homemade sloppy
Joe, or choose from two
homemade soups; cream
of chicken with rice, and
vegetable beef barley.
They are very popular with
regulars and keep people
coming back again and
again.
At Pop’s, customers are
treated as more than a just
a customer; they are treated
as a friend.
“We have so many regulars
here, and I think it’s
because we give out great
customer service,” Matyas
said. “We like to talk
and laugh with our regulars
when they walk in the
door, really make them
feel welcome.
“We have some regulars
that come here so often,
as soon as they walk in
the door I’m already calling
their order out to the
kitchen before the customer
even makes it up to the
counter.”
And it’s not just the customers
that are loyal.
“Most of our employees
have been here a long
time, so we can really
keep up the consistency,”
Matyas said. “I have one
employee that’s been with
the Pop’s franchise for 20
years, and another one
that’s been with me since
Day 1 in Tinley Park.”
