squares and boulevards
in Budapest are decked
out with LED lights,
Christmas ornaments and other colorful
decorations, giving the city a profound
festive feel, especially after sundown
(which is already around 3:45pm). There
are Christmas trees and Nativity scenes
on various location in town, but the
“national” Christmas tree stands, almost
20 meters tall, in front of Parliament
at Kossuth Square. Shop windows in
major shopping streets like Váci Street,
Andrássy Boulevard (a Unesco world
heritage site) and “Fashion Street”
(Deák Street) are also abundantly
decorated, and the scent of roasted
chestnuts, cinnamon-flavoured
chimney cakes and mulled wine
fills the air.
