EXHIBITION
WITHIN FRAMES
↔ This exhibit gives an overview of the
art of the sixties in Hungary, when the
communist power classified cultural
works according to the notorious
system of the “Three Ts,” standing for the
Hungarian words Tiltott, Tűrt, Támogatott,
meaning “Forbidden”, “Tolerated”
and “Supported.” These were years
of political consolidation in Hungary,
bracketed by the major historic events of
the 1956 Revolution in Hungary and the
Prague Spring of 1968; interesting times
bringing forth interesting art. Hungarian
EXHIBITION
TARKOVSKY AND MORE
→ The Art Gallery (Műcsarnok) has several
smaller exhibitions. One tells the story
of how film director Andrei Tarkovsky’s
movie “The mirror” was created with the
use of old family photographs (till Dec
10). A second one is a tribute to the Toldi
Photo Gallery which operated during two
short periods in communist times, giving
space to artists critical of the regime.
There are also exhibits with the the
work of painters János Blaskó and Miklós
Jakobovits (from Dec 6). Műcsarnok – Listing
CONCERTS
SHOWS
FREAK FUSION
Trafó is the main venue for modern
theater, with a program full of
thought-provoking performances.
Hungarian new circus company Freak
Fusion is taming gravity in its new
piece. The juggling tools fall sooner
or later, no matter how much training
the acrobats survive. The
tightrope walker has to
return to the ground,
he cannot remain
in the air – gravity
always calls him. Dec
Castle Hill is also a venue for concerts
classical works in the breathtaking
surroundings of the splendid church
where King Matthias was
married and Sissi was
crowned Hungarian
queen. Dec 2, 9, 15,
