JUNE<br />
• Girl Scout troop 30380 donated over 25 pairs of new pajamas to<br />
the Pajama Program at COTS (Committee on Temporary Shelter).<br />
The Girl Scouts used money they earned selling Girl Scout cookies<br />
to purchase the pajamas, and received donations from families.<br />
Girls in the troop are in 1st and 2nd grades at East Montpelier<br />
Elementary, Calais Elementary, Union Elementary, and<br />
Websterville Baptist School.<br />
• Central Vermont Humane<br />
Society’s Walk for Animals<br />
was held on June 3rd and<br />
raised over $60,000 to help<br />
save over 1000 animals at<br />
CVHS. The top adult fundraiser<br />
raised over $3500. This<br />
year, many kids raised funds,<br />
including the winner for Top<br />
Team. Team Natalie and Chloe, two teenagers, raised over $1000<br />
for animals.<br />
• The U32 8th grade class took<br />
its annual trip to Washington,<br />
D.C. On the trip, they expanded<br />
their studies by visiting the<br />
Holocaust Museum,<br />
Smithsonian Natural Museum,<br />
Smithsonian American<br />
Museum and the Smithsonian<br />
Air and Space Museum. They<br />
also visited and paid their<br />
respects at the Washington<br />
Memorial, WW2 Memorial,<br />
Vietnam Memorial, Korea Memorial, US Marine Corps Memorial,<br />
the many monuments around the tidal basin, and Arlington<br />

• Braden DeForge, a <strong>17</strong>-year-old senior<br />
attending Twinfield Union School in<br />
Marshfield, is the 20<strong>17</strong> Paletteers scholarship<br />
winner. As a young artist, he is pursuing<br />
a higher education at the University of<br />
Vermont as a studio art major.<br />

• U.S. Air Force Airman Briana M. Breer<br />
graduated from basic military training at<br />
Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San<br />
Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an<br />
intensive, eight-week program that<br />
included training in military discipline<br />
and studies, Air Force core values, physical<br />
fitness, and basic warfare principles<br />
and skills. Airmen who complete basic<br />
training also earn four credits toward an<br />
associate in applied science degree through the Community<br />
College of the Air Force. Breer is the daughter of Billie-Jo Breer<br />
and sister of Mandy Ranew of Graniteville, Vt. She is a 20<strong>12</strong><br />
graduate of Union 32 High School, East Montpelier, Vt.<br />
