THE SCIENCE OF BODYBUILDING
I have been a huge fan of the sport of body building since I was a teenager. I am
amazed at what the human body can look like when developed but if we are all born
with the same bodies, head, arms, legs, feet, etc., why doesn’t everyone look like a
body builder? Bodybuilding is more than a sport it is a scientific process, a process that
includes discipline, resistance, nutrition, and most importantly failure.
Bodybuilding is the only sport I know of where the objective of each training session is
to purposely achieve failure. My favorite training method to achieve failure thus causing
muscle growth is “time under tension.” The “time under tension” principle refers to the
total amount of time a muscle resists weight during an exercise. This calculated
approach to training breaks down the muscle forcing it to repair itself and eventually
creating new size and strength. This is why you feel “sore” a day or two after you train.
Resting, hydration, and consuming the right foods and supplementation are critical to
fuel your body’s ability to repair itself efficiently.
