I share this story with you because it exemplifies what I believe “the release” looks like,
allow me to explain. The Release does not take place when Red has his parole request
approved. The Release had already taken place within him prior to that meeting. His
statement, “so you go on and stamp your form sonny and stop wasting my time
because to tell you the truth, I don’t give a sh**,” confirms it. He had already “let go”
of the outcome and was a free man regardless of what took place at that meeting.
I believe ‘letting go’ is when we release our idea of how a person, place or thing should
act, look, or feel like. Letting go requires us to release control and no longer hold a
person, place, or thing to our standard or expectations-regardless of what they have or
have not done to/for us. The fact is our standards are often unrealistic and impossible
to live up to because they are based in ego.
