10th Annual Girls Engineering Math
& Science (GEMS) Conference at
UW-Waukesha
We are excited to offer our 10th annual
GEMS program this year as we invite our
middle school girls and their parents,
teachers, community leaders, and successful
professional women together in
an effort to boost knowledge and interest
in various areas of math, science, and
engineering! Girls ages 11 to 14 choose
various hands-on workshops taught by
successful professionals in STEM fields, and
establish connections and friendships with
like-minded girls of the same age group. If
you are a STEM professional, consider volunteering
to present hands-on workshops
for this conference! For our 10th anniversary
of this program, we are looking to
recognize past participants of the program
by asking them to send us their stories

Start with a re-purposed Android device,
add some electronics and mechanical
parts... and build the smartest robot yet.
Learn about robotics, electronics, and
computer programming as you build a
robot to participate in an all new, unique
competition the final day. We provide the
Android device and all the parts needed to
build an incredible robot. When the class is
over, you can keep the device and robot to
further explore its capabilities. Parents are
invited to watch our robotics competition
where students demonstrate the different
skills their robot has! Space is limited.

NEW! DOTS: Digital Observation Technology Skills Ages 13-17
The Digital Observation Technology Skills (DOTS) program is an outdoor environmental
education lesson that uses modern mobile technology tools to connect today’s students
to the outdoors in new and innovative ways. This inquiry-based lesson navigates the
basics of the scientific method and focuses on the importance of good scientific communication
and sharing discoveries with others. Students work in groups to test simple
hypotheses from the environmental and ecological differences across the local landscape
using data and observations collected in the field. Participants use the technology tools
found in the DOTS kits to make observations, take measurements, explore the micro and
macro details of their environment, and learn how to embrace their inner scientists. Please
