Beginning Spanish<br />

The Spanish language is widely relevant<br />

in the U.S. today. If you are looking for an<br />

accessible and introductory course for<br />

learning Spanish, then this is the course<br />

for you! You will learn the basic structures<br />

of Spanish grammar, be able to write and<br />

speak simple sentences, and gain a wealth<br />

of practical vocabulary. This class also<br />

serves as a refresher course if it’s been a<br />

while, and beginners will enjoy a face-toface<br />

exploration of this indispensable and<br />

beautiful language! The second session will<br />

be a continuation of session 1 which you<br />

can apply to the next level of grammar,<br />

conversation, an listening comprehension.<br />

Intermediate Spanish<br />

This course is designed for students with<br />

secondary Spanish skills, and will concentrate<br />

on conversation and cementing<br />

grammar structures. You will review and<br />

practice present tense at an intermediate<br />

level, be introduced to past tense, and<br />

strengthen your conversational agility. Together<br />

you will accumulate proper grammar,<br />

intelligent conversation, and verb<br />

tenses, including future tense. Successful<br />

completion of both sessions will make<br />

your seasoned Spanish skills a marketable<br />

addition to your resumes!<br />

Chinese for Beginners and Travelers<br />

Join native speaker Yan Peng to learn fun<br />

and simple conversational Chinese for<br />

business or travel. In this nine week course,<br />

learn to read and write Chinese characters,<br />

and pinyin (the Chinese phonetic spelling<br />

from UW-Madison.<br />

A native of Italy,<br />

Maristella received<br />

her Masters of Arts<br />

degree from the<br />

University of Pisa in<br />

Italy. She is currently the executive director<br />

and a faculty member at the Tuscany<br />

Language Academy, and a faculty member<br />

of Italian and Latin at Madison College.<br />

Maristella’s passion is teaching others the<br />

beautiful language and culture of Italy and<br />

enjoys all levels of learners!<br />

Beginning German<br />

Would you like to build upon your basic<br />

skills in German? Then this is the course<br />

for you! You will learn conversation basics<br />

like pronunciation, people and things,<br />

questions, and counting. Vocabulary will<br />

also feature public interactions such as:<br />

hospital, restaurant, shopping, travel, and<br />

language necessary for daily life, including<br />

Immersion into American Sign<br />

Language<br />

Everyday communication is the centerpiece<br />

of every lesson in this class. Topics<br />

that are studied revolve around sharing<br />

information about our environment and<br />

us. Grammar is introduced in context, with<br />

an emphasis on developing question and<br />

answering skills. Students will learn conversational<br />

strategies to help you maintain<br />

a conversation. Interaction activities allow<br />

you to rehearse what you’re learned. This<br />

is a total immersion class, with no English<br />

being spoken during class. No previous<br />

knowledge of ASL is required.<br />
