The Reading to Dogs programme<br />

is designed to provide<br />

a relaxed, non-threatening<br />

atmosphere which encourages<br />

children to practice their reading<br />

skills and develop a love of<br />

reading. All furry friends have<br />

been trained and tested for<br />

health, safety and temperament.<br />

Library staff and a dog handler<br />

will be present at all times to<br />

help facilitate the sessions. Each<br />

session is 15 minutes long.<br />

story time theme and craft<br />

Laughter Club<br />

Sunday, 11am -12pm<br />

Laughter yoga employs no<br />

humour, jokes or comedy and<br />

participants are invited to laugh<br />

for no reason at all. Anyone can<br />

do it. Laughter is a form of exercise.<br />

The group makes eye contact<br />

while taking part in a series<br />

of playful laughter exercises,<br />

including breathing and gentle<br />

stretching. After a short while<br />

the laughter becomes infectious<br />

and genuine.<br />

The Scottish Country Dancing<br />

WINTER EVENT: The Papanui Youth Development Trust is throwing an extravagant dance party<br />

for the school holidays. The dance, for children aged 9-12, will be on Saturday July 16 from 7pm<br />

to 11.30pm. Tickets go on sale Monday at the early bird price of $10 for one-week only. After<br />

that, tickets will be $15 or $20 on the door. The theme of this term’s rave is Winter, so wear<br />

white. Food and drink will be available (cash only). It is a smoke-free and alcohol-free event.<br />

Caledonian Society are all hosting<br />

the event. Be welcomed by a<br />

piper, observe an address to the<br />

haggis and enjoy an evening of<br />

ceilidh style dancing. Flat shoes<br />

required.<br />
