Now operatiNg as aa auto Centre
papanui, the business began life in 1997
in the capable hands of owner Colin
Downes and his wife Linda as Bellvue
tyres and incorporating the aa Lube
franchise.
“The business grew from there,”
says Colin, who has now racked up an
impressive 45 years in the industry. This
has included running a workshop for
20 years and managing an aa Service
Centre.
The aa auto Centre papanui workshop’s
two qualified technicians, Max and Brent,
and the apprentice Mathew, provide the
full spectrum of mechanical repairs and
servicing. This includes all mechanical
work, some diagnostic work, suspension
work, cam belt replacement, brake checks
and repairs, lubes, aa batteries, antifreeze
testing and woF.
Free written quotes are provided if
required, and courtesy cars are available
so customers can carry on with their daily
life while their vehicle is in the workshop.
Bellvue tyres still operates from the
site. Specialising in the highly regarded
HanKook tyres, they cater for all tyre
needs including high performance and
4wD, and tyre repairs.
“we are a one-stop shop for all
motoring needs,” says Colin. “we have
built up a business and a loyal customer
base because we believe in looking after
the customer, and in doing it once and
doing it right. That’s the most important
thing because today’s cars are expensive
to repair.
“our technicians are also long-standing.
Max has been with us for 17 years, Brent
11 years and Mathew four and a half
years. our office administrator Vicky has
been with us for six and a half years too,
so they all know our customers well and
the customers know them.”
aa auto Service and repairs is a family
business too, with Colin’s daughter andrea
having worked on the administration side
for 17 years. Now having decided to step
back and enjoy semi-retirement, Colin
is passing some of the responsibility for
running the business on to andrea, who
will play her role in keeping this successful
operation running smoothly.
