Big win for Boys’ High

CHRISTCHURCH Boys’ High
School had a bonus-point win
after crushing Rangiora High
School in the 13th round of the
UC Championship.
On Saturday, Christchurch
BHS made light work of
Rangiora, piling on the points
in a one-sided 83-13 win. The
team also handed Bob Letiu
and Sam Caldwell first XV
debuts.
This puts Christchurch BHS
just two points behind competition
front runner’s, Christ’s
College.
Christ’s were impressive
against third-place Shirley Boys’
High School, running in five
tries to topple last year’s grandfinalists
33-10.
While the race for top spot
between Christ’s and Christchurch
BHS is one to watch, the
battle for the final two play-off
spots is wide open between
eight teams.
Just four competition points
separate third from 10th position,
with two rounds remaining.
St Andrew’s College and St
Bede’s College are both looking
to finish in the top four. They
both won on the weekend.

22-12.

THE GOLDEN TOUCH: Redwood resident Tayla Davidson
competed at the Karate New Zealand Championships in
Wellington from July 16-17. The nine-year-old returned to
Christchurch with a gold medal for Kumite (fighting) in the 8-9
years’ girls’ division. She then attended a two-day Karate New
Zealand training camp. Tayla is currently a brown belt, 3rd Kyu
and trains five nights a week. She wants to represent New
Zealand overseas. Her father, Greg Davidson, said he is “one
very proud dad”.
