IT’S FUN to strut your stuff
and have a good time at the
races, but as Vania Bailey says,
don’t forget etiquette.
“You don’t want to be a show
pony. You need to look polished
but most importantly you need
to feel comfortable in your own
skin.
“Don’t reveal too much.
Remember the rules – if you
are showing off a bit of cleavage
then wear a longer skirt. If you
have a long split in your dress
don’t show off your chest. Don’t
have everything on show – be
discreet.
“Accessories are important to
pull your outfit together – shoes,
short gloves and a matching
fascinator or hat.
“If you are going to wear
something fitted make sure you
wear the right garments underneath
so there are no outlines or
bumps.
“If you decide on a spray tan,
have a trial a few weeks before.
You don’t want to turn orange
on the day. Book your hair, nails
and makeup in advance.”
Airline uniforms land in city
AN AWARD-WINNING
exhibition that looks at the
uniforms, aircraft and stories
of the country’s flagship airline
opened in Christchurch last
weekend.
Air New Zealand 75 Years. Our
nation. The world. Connected
is an exhibition at Canterbury
Museum celebrating the airline’s
75th anniversary.
It has already been on display
at Te Papa in Wellington, and
Auckland War Memorial
Museum, attracting 677,000
visitors.
The exhibition begins with a
look at Air New Zealand’s uniform
designs over the years, as
well as traveller and crew stories.

exhibition
is on at
Canterbury
Museum.
It moves into the aircraft and
flight aspect of the airline’s history,
including the TEAL flying
boat era, and the early days of
flight in Canterbury.
The story of former Christchurch
Mayor Henry Wigram’s flying
school and Lady Constance
Stewart’s involvement with
the Canterbury Aero Club are
explored.
It also looks at tourism pioneer
Rodolph Wigley, who founded
the Mt Cook Group that
later included Mount Cook
Airlines.
The exhibition also features a
virtual reality in-flight experience
and takes a look at its
promotion posters, videos and
examples of how the airline has
adapted over 75 years.
It won best exhibition at the
New Zealand events awards last
month, beating the Gallipoli
World War 1 exhibition at Te
Papa.
It will run until March 26 2017.
