The national tournament was held in Hawkes Bay last week and featured 32 of the country’s top teams. Rangi Ruru won their quarterfinal against Hawkes Bay’s Iona College on Thursday 3-2, before beating Villa Maria College 4-1 in the semi-final. Their perfect eight wins from eight games cumulated in a 3-1 win over Hutt Valley High in the final. However, it left coach Dave Williams wondering what could have been if they had made the top national tournament. “This did show that we should have been at the premier tournament because we had the team to do well, but unfortunately, we did not get the chance,” he said.
