LEARN TO SWIM
The new Swimsmart
Membership is here!
The new Swimsmart membership
offers a new approach to learning to
swim. Swimsmart members will get free,
unlimited access to all Christchurch City
Council pools outside of regular lesson
times. This provides kids with extra
opportunities to practise their swimming
skills!
Customers will now be able to enrol for
a membership that offers up to 48 weeks of
lessons per year. The new membership also
allows customers to pay on a more regular
basis via direct debit instead of paying for
a full term up front.
Grading of children’s swimming skills
occurs on a regular basis, so they can move
up a level as soon as they’re ready. If there’s
no space available at that level at a suitable
time, your child will go on a waitlist and
get some advanced instruction at their
current level.
Book now to secure your child’s spot!
Readers write about
what it would take to
get them cycling to
Jellie Park Sport and
Recreation Centre
Connie Kruse Christensen
– Free entry
would make me cycle to
the swimming pools. But
needs more promoting to
schools, workplaces and
greater community for
people to know it exists.
Nic Davies – Warm
weather. Sadly, I’m not
much of a biker but have
to say love these new cycle
ways that are being made.
If I was more into biking
I’d feel damn safer using
them with all the crazy
car drivers about.
Lynn Mortlock –
The first trial held in the
middle of summer and
117 visits were recorded,
which according to the
organiser was a success.
Welcome to Christchurch,
which caters for the
minority and the majority
suffer.
Vanessa Gibson –
Haha! Don’t they have a
major problem with theft
there?!
Warren Kemp – For a
start a push-bike. Oh, and
warmer weather. Then
I will need motivation
(extremely low when it
comes to push-bikes) and
better roads. What about
self-propelled push-bikes?
And we could put a cage
around them for safety.
Wait a minute that sounds
like a car. Yes! A car
would work for me.
Jason Gemmill –
Give it up! Stop trying to
force people out of cars
and on to bikes. If we
wanted to, we would. But
clearly the vast majority
of us are not interested in
cycling.
CYCLE: An
initiative to
get people
leaving their
cars at home
may be given a
second chance.
Anna Barclay –
Nothing! Don’t waste the
money there’s still people
using chemical toilets in
New Brighton.
Anna Henderson –
Probably will anyway but
cycle lanes the whole way
would help. Feels much
safer!
Dennis Rogers – It
makes sense to bike as
you’re saving at least
$1000-plus a year leaving
your car at home. It’s extra
money in your pocket.
Danielle Aitken –
Advertise it more. I saw
nothing about the last
trial at all.
Jillian Nuth – I’d love
to but the traffic is terrifying.
Heather Wilkins –
Nothing. Why would I be
going to Jellie Park?
