A NEW and modern teaching
block is nearing completion at
Villa Maria College.
On July 25, the school is
set to open its new classroom
block, which offers a nod to the
past.
The college has named its
new building Kia Toa, which
was the name of the original
late 1800s homestead the Sisters
of Mercy purchased as part of
the Peer St property in 1918.
“We understand Kia Toa
means to be brave and to store.
Kia Toa expresses these ideas
for the building as a place from
which girls will set off, strongly
Medbury School welcomed Harley
Hamilton from World Vision to its
assembly, to accept money raised for
the 40 Hour Famine. Medbury raised
$22,818.10, which was the second
highest amount by a group in New
Zealand, and collectively they walked
more than 6000km.
Medbury pupils
put big effort
into fundraising
and bravely with their store of
knowledge to take the story of
Mercy with them,” principal
Deborah Brosnahan said.
Kia Toa will boast 17 large
teaching spaces for technology
learning, including food,
textiles and digital as well as
media studies, english, social
sciences and religious education.
The new building is part of
programme.
Next year marks Villa Maria’s
