14 Tuesday August 16 2016 SELWYN TIMES Lincoln looking for place in football final LINCOLN HIGH School can book their place in the final of the Connetics First XI football competition tomorrow when they meet Middleton Grange in the semi-finals at English Park. The winner will play the either Cashmere High School or Burnside High School who meet in the other semi-final which follows the Lincoln, Middleton match. Lincoln had completely dominated the competition up until last week. They went into last Wednesday’s final round-robin match against Middleton at English Park unbeaten and in the possession of the Connetics Shield, Canterbury secondary school’s football equivalent of the Ranfurly Shield. With the scores locked at nilall with less than five minutes to play Middleton midfielder Hirokazu Sanada hit the shot of his life, scoring from just inside the Lincoln Half to win the game for Middleton. “It was unbelievable, he launched about a 50m bullet,” said Lincoln manager Richard James. The two teams will meet for ON THE ATTACK: Luke Fowler (on the ball) has been instrumental in Lincoln’s success, leading the team with 17 goals this season. the second time in a week, however, much more is now at stake. “We’ve got the chance to rectify last week if we beat Middleton. Although Lincoln were gutted to lose the Connetics Shield and finish the round-robin with a loss to their name, bringing home the first XI competition will certainly put that at the back of their mind. There will be even more on the line for Lincoln at the end of the month. They will be SPORTS Canterbury’s only representative in the top 16 national secondary school tournament in Papamoa, Tauranga. It will also be the school’s first appearance in the top-16 pool stage. They face a tough job to advance from their group. They will play Auckland’s top side Sacred Heart College who are coached by former All-White defender Danny Hay. Mt Albert Grammar and New Plymouth Boys’ High School are also in their group. Lincoln’s semi-final against Middleton will take place tomorrow at English Park, kick-off is at 3.45pm. Shamrocks finish season on a high THE PREBBLETON Shamrocks have won the third division of the CSSL competition, finishing the season unbeaten. The team finished with a 3-0 over Avonhead on August 7, completing a dominant season, they did not concede a single goal in their final eight games. The Shamrocks scored 55 goals and conceded just 13 to finish with a goal differential of 42. The next best was Lyttleton FC with 17. The team will go up to second division next year and look forward to the challenge ahead. Last year the team did not win one game, making for a huge turnaround in the space of just 12 months. Rolleston dominated from start to finish in the one-sided display which saw them run out to an eventual 69-23 victory. Other results from Saturday saw competition leaders Lincoln A maintain their unbeaten run with a 59-29 win over Halswell Rugby League A. Meanwhile, Broadfield A defeated Greenpark A 65-47. Lincoln lead the competition on 16 points, Rolleston are second with 12.
