NO SURPRISES to the reaction
to city councillors Aaron Keown
and Phil Clearwater’s idea of a
fuel tax on Canterbury motorists
we reported last week.
Readers have responded en
masse and we have published
those responses on pages 16-18
today. One says they can stick
the idea where the sun doesn’t
shine . . . so it seems Keown and
Clearwater are lucky they haven’t
suggested the idea in election
year.
But then they’re probably too
clever for that. I suspect the two
have no chance of getting the tax
idea across the line.
On page 3, we report on a
dust up between local body
politicians over Donald Trump.
Community board member John
Stringer has taken exception to
Facebook posts from Vicki Buck
and the matter has turned to
custard from there. Let’s hope
Trump doesn’t find out. . . no
knowing what his reaction might
be.
In sport today we turn the
pages back and reveal what Trevor
ATTACK OF THE CONES
PROVES POPULAR
A GIANT arcade game that was installed
in the central city in December has
already been used about 23,000 times. The
Super Secret Arcade is a Gap Filler project
on the side of the Vodafone building
on Tuam St. The game, which can be
played by anyone, is called Attack of the
Cones, and features a cyclist moving
along a computerised Tuam St, with local
landmarks and characters such as the
Wizard.
