Kura o Hine Waiora we believe each girl
should be encouraged and guided to be all
she can become. We want her to be aware
of the myriad of possibilities that exist so
that she can become confident, resilient
and skilled; a young woman who stands
proud and tall, in any context, who not
only has a voice but something to say and
who is able, to use the business metaphor,
take a seat at any table she chooses.
We believe we must educate, nurture
and inspire young women. We wish to
challenge our students to be discerning
critical and creative thinkers, who are
comfortable with the concepts of hard
work and service. By providing a wide

Open Evening 2017
Burnside High School is pleased to
invite members of the community to
our Open Evening on Tuesday 16 May.
We are well aware of the significance
parents place on the transition from
Primary or Intermediate to Secondary
School and how important it is to
make the right decision about this
transition.
Burnside High School is a large
secondary school, a centre for academic
excellence, with an outstanding record
of academic, cultural and sporting
success. The size of the school ensures
that there is an exceptionally wide
range of subjects and extra-curricular
opportunities available. This provides
flexibility for students to follow a
pathway suited to their ability, interests
and skills.
The unique structure of the school
retains all the benefits of a large school
but with students in Divisions of
approximately 700. This ensures that
students are known on an individual
basis and are supported and mentored
by senior students, Form Teachers,
Deans and Guidance Counsellors.
This strong pastoral and guidance
focus helps Burnside High School
students strive to excel and develop
into well rounded New Zealanders.
Students achieve well above the level
The Star
of similar schools in the attainment of
NCEA certificates and endorsements
and perform to the highest level in a
range of local, regional and national
academic, cultural and sporting
competitions. The school is renowned
for its Specialist Music Programme, the
only such programme in the country.
The Open Evening offers Year 8

to view the facilities and to experience
