village’s commercial
and residential
development, the
need for public toilets
and a number of trees
set to be removed
Castle Hill Village has
been lucky to have a good
fall of snow for the school
holidays.
A lot of snow fights and
children sliding down
the hill by the water slide.
Skifields are off to a good
start.
A number of new
houses are being built in
the village and the design
controls result in
attractive architecture
which blends in with the
alpine environment.
The village has a very
active community association
which also acts as the
township
committee for this part of
the district with whom we
work closely.
There is a review of our
Reserves Management
Plan in progress which
discusses the
continuing management
of the village reserves and
in particular its trees.
One important item
for consideration is the
removal of Pinus contorta
(lodgepole pine)
that has established itself
around our community
hall and tennis court.
A process of annual
removal and re-planting
has been
going on for a number of
years.
It has now been decided
that these trees will have
to be removed as part of
a district-wide move to
stop the spread of wilding
pines.
The review will decide
how quickly this can be
achieved.
The growth of visitor
traffic on the Great Alpine
Highway and the growth
of the mountain-biking
community using the
network of trails now developed
around the village
has meant
that one public toilet is not
enough.
The district council is
working on the provision
of three new toilets and
will approach the Government
for funds as part of
the recent announcement
of a new funding initiative
for this purpose.
Plans for the final
stages of residential
development and plans for
the village’s commercial
zone have been prepared
and submitted to district
council.
The township
committee wishes to
have an opportunity to
comment on these plans
as the future village centre
will be developed there
and this will have a great
impact on the additional
amenities and services
available for visitors and
residents alike.
