CHERYL Haglund is far
from impressed after six
roosters mysteriously
appeared on her front lawn
in the night.
A band of silky cross
roosters were dumped
at her lifestyle block at
Holmlea Farms based on
Waterholes Rd, Rolleston
overnight recently.
Mrs Haglund is now
calling for residents to take
responsibility for their
own animals rather than
casting them off to other
people.
“Somebody has the
damn bloody cheek to
dump their six roosters on
my property in the night
. . . they didn’t even have
the decency to say I have
got these roosters, I don’t
want them anymore, are
you able to find a place for
them,” she said.
Mrs Haglund said she
would have taken the
roosters and found homes
for them anyway.
So far she has managed
to catch three of the roosters.
“People think I have got
a lot of chooks, I am not
going to notice half a dozen
more. I know just about
all my chooks personally,”
Mrs Haglund said.
Being on the pension, she
said she is struggling to feed
her own animals as it is.
Mrs Haglund cares for
a range of animals on her
lifestyle block including a
cow, donkey, sheep, goat
and mini-horses.

young chooks and I have
always said to anybody who
has taken them from me if

a rooster bring it back. Do
not let it go on the side of
the road,” she said.
It is not the first time for
Mrs Haglund, who had
two fluffy bunnies abandoned
on her property
about four years ago which
she re-homed.
