Little mistakes cost Country under-18s
• By Andrew King
THE DEFENSIVE handbook
was thrown out the window as
Canterbury Country under-18
lost 46-31 to Tasman under-18 in
West Melton on Saturday.
Country coach Glen Dunseath
said little mistakes crept into
their game, which let them down.
“The simple fact was that both
sides didn’t deal with the restart
well in the first half. We would
knock on, then they would score,
then they would knock on and
we would score,” he said.
With 15min to go in the match,
Country were well in the game,
but a couple of tries at the end
blew the score out, Dunseath
said.
“Look, Tasman are a quality
side. They have three really high
performing teams in the UC
Championship and it shows, “
Dunseath said.
Country have a bye in
the South Island under-18
competition this weekend, but
will play the New Zealand Area
Schools team on Saturday.
“(New Zealand Area Schools)
are not to the same level of
competition we have faced in the
past two weeks, but they will be
tough,” Dunseath said.
He said everyone in the
Country team were sore but
came through the weekend free
from major injuries.
