A great day’s entertainment is on
order for the inaugural Jones Road Auto
Selwyn Motor Fest and Family Fun Day.
Hours of planning and work have gone
into making this a great day out and
there will be something for everyone in
the family, especially motor enthusiasts.
Covering 30 hectares, the Jones Road
Auto Selwyn Motor Fest and Family Fun
Day will be a huge affair with hundreds
of cars, trucks, motorcycles, motors,
tractors, steam engines and interesting
displays, as well as market and food stalls.
The first of its kind for the district, this
event has attracted considerable interest
with over 200 show vehicles registered so
far. Motor vehicles on display will range
from a 1914 Model T to late model cars
like a 2014 Corvette and 2017 Lotus 7.
The Ellesmere Vintage Club, Vintage
Speedway and RATEC Motorsport will
be there, while the Canterbury Mustang
Club are making this day an official club
event.
“The grounds look fantastic with the
grass cut and baled for seating. There’ll
be something for everyone with a great
show of motor vehicles and wide variety
of stalls and entertainment throughout

the day,” says Selwyn District Councillor
Craig Watson who is on the organising
committee.
Craig says the event will be a fete
with a motor focus, cool activities and
displays. Local emergency services
including St John ambulances; vintage
and car clubs; rally cars; the New
Zealand Trucking Association; the
Selwyn District Council; Residents’
Association; Selwyn Parenting
Network; and other community
groups will be present. There will be
plenty for the children too, with a
Bunnings Warehouse construction
display, bouncy castles, face painting,
pony rides, steam engine rides and
more.
Thirty plus market stalls will
offer something for everyone, from
motoring paraphernalia to children’s
clothing and Tupperware, with an
additional 15 food stalls and four
coffee vendors providing a range of
cuisine.
Relax and listen to the music of
Shed 24 and Lee Martin after strolling
around the exhibits and motors on
display.

Supporting St John
The Selwyn Central St John branch has
responsibility for raising $150,000 towards
their local operation. All money from the
Jones Road Auto Selwyn Motor Fest and
Family Fun Day will go to supporting
the Leeston and Rolleston stations,
ambulances and vital services offered by
St John throughout a district that covers a
considerable geographic area.

When Nigel and Lisa Fleck heard about
plans for a motor fest they were keen to
get involved, leading to Jones Road Auto
becoming major sponsor for the event.
With a shared interest in cars and both
Nigel and Lisa driving their own classic cars,
the idea of holding a family oriented motor
fest in Selwyn appealed, especially as it is a
fundraiser for St John.
“With it being a family event and fundraiser
for such a good cause, it was important for us
to be involved,” says Lisa who with Nigel own
and operate Jones Road Auto and Selwyn
Auto.
“Participation in this event allows us to give
something back to the community especially
when St John helps so many people.”
