Real estate has its share of<br />
‘I want’ moments: I want a sale,<br />
I want a listing, I want that listing,<br />
I want this price. The list is a long<br />
one, demands coming in from<br />
every participant and stakeholder<br />
involved in the process of buying<br />
and selling real estate.<br />
Consultants who want so many things matched<br />
by owners who want one very specific thing, and<br />
that’s More! This is usually followed by the word<br />
‘Money’. It’s a simple enough request, but like all<br />
simple matters, the devil is in not just the detail<br />
but the delivery.<br />
The words I don’t hear enough of are, I will:<br />
I will do what it takes, I will work longer,<br />
harder, smarter, putting your (the clients)<br />
interests over my own.<br />
I will keep in touch and communicate in a<br />
consistent and transparent manner, say the<br />

good and the bad, not just the sanitized and the<br />
sloppy. I will turn up on time and market your<br />
home with flair and intelligence, chasing every<br />
lead till it goes no further.<br />
Now some ‘I wills’ from owners.<br />
I will take an interest in your recommendations<br />
on how to get the best result. I will have my<br />
home presented in a manner that will attract<br />
buyers and their attention, and if I’ve got it<br />
wrong I will take on board what you say.<br />
I will provide you with accurate and truthful<br />
details about my property and I will not say there<br />
is insulation everywhere when there is not, or<br />
the underfloor heating is throughout the entire<br />
house when it stops at the living room.<br />
Here are some buyer ‘I wills’.<br />
I will let you know if I no longer want to keep my<br />
appointment so you don’t have to spend time<br />
and energy on research or drive for miles. I will<br />
give you the best brief I can so that when I ask<br />
you to show me three-bedroom townhouses<br />
but I buy a two-bedroom villa you understand.<br />
Like everyone else, as a stakeholder in this<br />
relationship I want things as well.<br />
I want the business I’ve worked two decades on<br />
and in to stand for something.<br />
I want people to be proud to work for it.<br />
I want to lead with integrity and inspire standout<br />
performance.<br />
What are my ‘I wills’?<br />
I will work as long and as hard as it takes<br />
everyday.<br />
I will provide consistent, inspirational leadership,<br />
anchored with a commitment to the needs of<br />
our team and our clients. And I’ll try to balance<br />
the 50 balls I’ve got up in the air without falling<br />
over, losing the plot or being hit in the head by<br />
one. Not easy!<br />
