THE MARDLER GARDENER AKA PANSY’S POTTERINGS
“The February sunshine sleeps your boughs and tints the buds
and swells the leaves within. “
William C Bryant
Though it’s early, you can start off the slower growing half-hardy
annuals and perennials. Pelargonium, Begonia and
Osteospermum are easy to grow from seed with a warm window
sill or heated greenhouse.
Plan your vegetable plot; ensure good crop rotation to prevent
pests and diseases building up in the soil.
Check shrubs; remove dead, diseased or damaged branches.
Avoid pruning spring-flowering varieties until after they flower.
Cut back deciduous grasses. Summer flowering climbers like
Wisteria and Clematis, as well as Ivy and Jasmine, are varieties
that flower in mid to late summer can withstand hard pruning.
Take them back to a strong pair of buds. After pruning, sprinkle a
granular fertiliser around the base of the plant to give it a boost.
Also mulch to add nutrients and help to retain water.
Plant roses, the addition of Mycorrhizal Fungi helps them absorb
minerals and water.
On behalf of myself and my family I should like to express my
thanks for all the kindness shown to us on the demise of my dear
mum.
We have all been overwhelmed by all the cards and words of
comfort that have been given to us.
We shall all miss Mum but it has been a great comfort to us all to
know how much she also meant to others.
The help support and kindness received by Mum from her friends
was greatly appreciated by us all.
