Chapelwood Foundation Summary Report 2016

Shine On Sierra Leone

Shine On Sierra Leone One of the global organizations the Chapelwood Foundation supported for the first time in 2016 is Shine On Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone is a small country the size of South Carolina and has a population of six million people. It is rich in land minerals (think gold, diamonds, and titanium), but has been left with a poor infrastructure from their 10-year civil war. At the small school created by Shine On Sierra Leone, the Chapelwood Foundation provided for the educational, health, and economic needs of 62 children who were orphaned by the Ebola virus in 2015. Some of the wonderful things Shine On Sierra Leone does are: • Healthcare: Partnered with the First Lady of Sierra Leone and Wellbody Alliance (wellbodyalliance.org) and secured $175,000 to launch a Maternal and Child Healthcare Program in the Kono District. • Education: The Muddy Lotus School is the first sustainable primary school in Sierra Leone and provides an excellent, free education for 400 students per year. • Micro-loans: Dispersed over 7,000 loans to recipients who created or expanded businesses to generate income for themselves and their families. 6

Scholarship The Chapelwood Foundation shares God’s grace with college students through scholarships, mentoring, and support during their college years. We are blessed to be a part of their educational journey. 7
