Security call for St Joseph’s
Insurers for the derelict St Joseph’s
College in Up Holland have
demanded that security is beefed up.
Episodes of vandalism and trespass have caused
“significant” cost and damage to the Grade II listed
building. A retrospective planning application
has now been submitted to West Lancs Borough
Council for extra security fencing at the College
Road site, which has been vacant for 16 years.
Papers submitted on behalf of the site owners,
Anglo International Upholland Ltd also reveal that
talks are underway over possibly bringing the site
back into use: “The applicant is seeking to work with
the council to agree an active use of the building
with associated development, and views this
fencing as effectively an interim measure until that
process has been progressed.
“It is not concluded by the applicant to be a
permanent addition but is essentially a ‘meanwhile’
addition to preserve the building while those more
substantive matters are resolved.”
