Fundraising event
Regular readers will need no introduction to Kath
Maguire, Edith Berry and Anne Hurst, who have
raised tens of thousands of pounds by hosting
fundraisers for the Macmillan charity.
This fundraiser however, is looking to raise funds
for their church, St Thomas the Martyr in Church
Street, Up Holland. Promising an evening of song
and fashion, the event is held on Friday, March 23, at
the church, starting at 7pm. Stalls will also be selling
fancy goods, cakes and vegetables.

Saturday church
St Luke’s Church on Lodge Road, Orrell, is now
open every Saturday, from 10am-noon, to provide
a quiet place for people to go and pray or just sit
quietly. As well as space for private prayer, there will
be information about the church and its activities,
access to the church library where anyone can
borrow books, access to the church book and card
stall, and refreshments. There is parking available
and the event is dog-friendly.

trend, new stats reveal. Latest figures from Wigan
Council show a 35% reduction in fly tipping reports.
