Extreme Deep 

Mission to the Abyss and Our Fox River 

Explore the Ocean’s depths with this interactive exhibit, where you will enter an 

Alvin submersible, test its robotic arm to pick up lava rocks from the seafloor, 

operate an ROV (remotely operated vehicle) camera to discover shipwrecks 

like the Titanic, build a 3D submarine and explore underwater stations, 

instruments and dwellings. ES 

Extreme Deep highlights the importance of geology, history, biology and 

chemistry as well as technology in deep-sea exploration. For more information,

above the regional average in 39 of

inclusion in Newbery and Caldecott books, 

give targeted booktalks and strategies for 

powerful discussions about diverse literature

Jack Shales, a 

community treasure, 

passed away a few 

weeks ago. Even 

before he became 

an official Gail 

Borden Public 

Library Foundation 

Director with 

his wife Marlene 

Shales, he was devoted to make library 

services available to our community. He 

was especially instrumental in bringing 

books, services and new space through 

the addition of the Rakow and South Elgin 

branches. We continue to be honored to 

feature the "Shales Living Room" in the 

Rakow Branch. We extend our sympathy to 

the entire Shales family.
