Violins of Hope 

Exhibit on Display 

Main Library Second Floor 

Through the End of August 

Sponsored by the Seigle Foundation and the Palmer Foundation. 

Ten violins played by Jewish musicians before and during 

the Holocaust and lovingly restored will be on display, 

resonating the message of hope, resistance, resilience and 

unity. Violins of Hope is hosted by the Jewish Community Center (JCC) of 

Chicago and other partner organizations.

Fourth of July Parade, Concert, and Fireworks 

The City of Elgin is excited to celebrate the Fourth of July with a parade, 

concert and fireworks, all occurring on Tuesday, July 4. This year's theme is 

"90s Throwback." 

Parade Information 

Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. located at the 

intersection of Douglas and Slade. The parade 

concludes at the intersection of Douglas and 

Highland, near City Hall. This year there will be 

no float judging. 

Concert and Fireworks 

• Food trucks suited for various tastes will be 

parked on Grove Avenue adjacent to Festival 

Park starting at 4:00 p.m. 

• Free concert featuring various live music acts 

from across the United States will take place 

at Festival Park, located at 132 S Grove 

Avenue at 7:00 p.m. 

• Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy 

this all-day event. 

• No outside alcohol or pets will be allowed at the concert and fireworks. 

• The event concludes with a spectacular fireworks show beginning at around 

9:20 p.m. and lasting approximately 20-30 minutes. 

Movies in the Park 

Bring the whole family to sit under the stars in Elgin’s own beautiful parks! 

Enjoy a variety of family films all summer long, all for FREE! Remember to 

bring your lawn chairs, blankets, bug spray and snacks. Coolers are 

permitted at these events. No alcohol is allowed. Each event will have 

additional fun activities such as characters and interactive activities until the 

movie begins. All movies begin at approximately 8:00 p.m.

Block Party in a Box 

The City has created the "Block Party in a 

Box," which has everything you need to host a 

memorable event! Everything from pop-up 

tents and tables to street barricades and safety 

signs to yard games and entertainment. You can 

reserve the Block Party in a Box for your event and 

city staff will handle the drop off and pickup for you. There 

is a $50 refundable deposit to reserve it and reservations are taken on a 

first-come-first-served basis. 

The Block Party in a Box cannot be reserved on 

National Night Out (August 1).

National Night Out is Tuesday, August 1 

National Night Out (NNO) is an annual 

community-building campaign that 

promotes police-community 

partnerships and neighborhood 

camaraderie to make our 

neighborhoods safer, more caring 

places to live. During NNO, residents 

spend their evening outside with their 

neighbors, police officers, firefighters 

and other City personnel. Events such 

as cookouts and block parties occur 

simultaneously throughout Elgin and

Request a Free Tree for Your Parkway by August 15th 

Did you know? The City of Elgin has a program available to residents where they can request a free tree be 

planted in their parkway. The parkway is the area between the sidewalk and street. Elgin's free tree planting 

program was developed to sustain our neighborhood forests and provide value to properties. 

The city opens the application twice per year, once in the spring and once in the fall. The city will have 500 

trees available for the program this year. This program is first-come first-served, so make sure to submit your 

application early.

program administrator, MC Squared Energy Services (mc²), and they

Free Lunch and Drop-In Playground Program 

Join your neighbors in your neighborhood park for food and fun this summer! Children ages 6-12 

years are encouraged to “drop-in” when they need something new and exciting to fill their time. 

Special event days will also be held throughout the summer so drop by early to get a schedule of 

the events. 

All children need to have a completed emergency card on file with the program supervisor before 

attending. Children are not required to attend daily or for the entire program time but can come to 

the park for fun activities and games. The program will not be held on rainy or inclement weather 

days. Northern Illinois Food Bank will provide free lunches for participants beginning at 11:30 a.m., 

rain or shine.

Program runs Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. 

through August 4 at Cornerstone Park, College Green 

Park, Lords Park and St. Francis Park.

Desfile del 4 de julio, concierto y fuegos artificiales 

La ciudad de Elgin se complace en celebrar el 4 de julio con un desfile, un 

concierto y fuegos artificiales, todo el martes 4 de julio. El tema de este año es 

"90s Throwback" (un recuerdo de los años noventa). 

Información del desfile 

• El martes 4 de julio de 2023 a las 9:00 a.m. 

ubicado en la intersección de Douglas y 

Slade. El desfile concluye en la intersección 

de Douglas y Highland, cerca del 

Ayuntamiento. Este año no habrá jueces para 

las carrozas. 

Concierto y fuegos artificiales 

• Los camiones de comida estarán 

estacionados en Grove Avenue junto a 

Festival Park a partir de las 4:00 p.m. 

• Se llevará a cabo un concierto gratuito con 

varios actos de música en vivo en Festival 

Park, ubicado en 132 S Grove Avenue a las 

7:00 p.m. 

• Traiga sus sillas de jardín y cobijas para 

disfrutar de este evento todo el día. 

• No se permitirán bebidas alcohólicas ni mascotas en el concierto o durante 

los fuegos artificiales. 

• El evento concluye con un espectáculo de fuegos artificiales que comienza 

alrededor de las 9:20 p.m. y con una duración aproximada de 20-30 

minutos. 

Fiesta En Tu Cuadra En Una Caja 

Todo lo que necesitas para organizar una fiesta 

de cuadra memorable se encuentra en el 

remolque. Todo, desde carpas, mesas, barricadas 

en las calles y letreros de seguridad, hasta juegos 

de jardín y entretenimiento. Puedes reservar el 

remolque para tu evento y el personal de la ciudad se 

encargará de dejarlo y recogerlo. Hay un depósito reembolsable 

de $50 para reservarlo y las reservaciones se 

toman en el orden que se reciben. 

El remolque no se puede reservar para 

“National Night Out” (el 1 de agosto).

Películas en el parque 

¡Trae a toda la familia a sentarse bajo las estrellas en los hermosos parques 

de Elgin! Disfrute de una variedad de películas familiares durante todo el 

verano, ¡Todo GRATIS! Recuerde traer sus sillas de jardín, cobijas, repelente 

de insectos y botanas. Se permiten hieleras en estos eventos. No se permite 

alcohol. Cada evento tendrá actividades divertidas adicionales como 

personajes y actividades interactivas hasta que comience la película. Todas 

las películas comienzan aproximadamente a las 8:00 p.m.

National Night Out (NNO) es una campaña 

anual de desarrollo comunitario que

Solicite un árbol gratis para su avenida 

¿Sabía Qué? La ciudad de Elgin tiene un programa disponible para los residentes donde pueden solicitar que 

se plante un árbol gratis en su avenida. La avenida es el área que se encuentra entre la banqueta y el bordillo 

de la calle. El programa gratuito de plantación de árboles de Elgin se desarrolló para sustentar los bosques de 

nuestro vecindario y brindar valor a las propiedades. 

La ciudad abre la aplicación dos veces al año, una en primavera y otra en otoño. La ciudad tendrá 500 árboles 

disponibles para el programa este año; Se pueden solicitar 250 árboles en primavera y 250 árboles en otoño. 

Visite cityofelgin.org/treeplanting para ver la lista de especies seleccionados para este año y complete la 

solicitud de árboles y el formulario de selección de árboles. Este programa es por orden de llegada, ¡así que 

asegúrese de enviar su solicitud con anticipación!

Golf Elgin
