Give Me Five! is a program that partners with Families, Early Learning Programs, School and
the Community to ensure that all young children are prepared for learning in Kindergarten.
The Give Me Five! message emphasizes that parents are a child’s
first and most important teacher and that learning begins at BIRTH!
Give Me Five! focuses on a child’s need to
Talk: listen to stories, hear new words
Play: learn rules and strategies for interaction with others
Read: recognize letters, letter sounds, words have meaning
Do: be an active explorer of the world using all five senses,
counting
Write: using play dough, crayons and scissors
Elgin Partnership for Early Learning (EPEL) is the early childhood collaboration for the
community. EPEL partners with community organizations like Gail Borden Library, U-46 Give Me
FIVE, childcare centers, in-home care providers, health care, home visitors and businesses to
support families and a shared vision of having all children ready for Kindergarten and life.
Parenting isn’t easy, so EPEL offers an 844-KID-INFO phone line in English and Spanish to help parents
make connections for childcare programs, child care assistance funding, developmental screenings and a
website of resources.
