Last December, more
than 300 guests joined
the North Shore Board of
Northwestern Settlement
at Morgan MFG in Chicago’s
Fulton Market neighborhood,
raising more than
$500,000 to send 300 Chicago
youth to Northwestern
Settlement’s House In
The Wood Camp for summer
2018.
“Whether through auction
donors and benefit
sponsors, or through the
Settlement’s capital campaign,
all have been a catalyst
to transform House
In The Wood into a yearround
comprehensive
program,” said Winnetka
resident Amy O’Donnell,
president of the North
Shore Board.
House In The Wood is
not just another summer
camp, although it has all of
the memory-making moments
such as swimming,
tree-climbing and campfire
songs. It is a year-round,
data-driven program for
at-risk youth from some
of the most violent neighborhoods
in Chicago, and
addresses the academic,
social and emotional needs
of inner-city children in a
nurturing outdoor environment
in Delavan, Wis.
For more than 125 years
Northwestern Settlement
has nurtured, educated and
inspired children and families
in need in Chicago.
The Settlement’s House In
The Wood Camp provides
a safe, natural environment
removed from urban
life to foster growth and
responsibility in campers.
