Feeling Anxious?<br />

How often do you feel anxious? All<br />

the time or just occasionally?<br />

We all feel anxious at some point, when we<br />

have that important meeting or exam, or even<br />

a job interview and it can actually help us<br />

perform better and be a signal that something<br />

is important to us. But sometimes, anxiety can<br />

get in the way of our everyday lives, and one way<br />

it does this, is in the form of unhelpful thoughts<br />

which can feed our anxiousness. So use this top<br />

tip to help you:<br />

CHALLENGE ANXIOUS OR WORRYING<br />

THOUGHTS<br />

Firstly, identify the anxious or worrying thought,<br />

break it down and in your own way, treat the<br />

thought as a hypothesis; so something that needs<br />

to be tested rather than treated as fact. To help<br />

you do this, you could ask yourself the following:<br />

Is this thought helpful or useful to me?<br />

If a friend had this worry, what would I say to<br />

them?<br />

What, if any, evidence is there that it’s true?<br />

Is it worth the time I’m spending worrying about<br />

it, what else could I be doing or thinking about<br />

instead?<br />

Is the worry something that is solvable or not?<br />

In other words, is there any action I could do<br />

to help ease the worry, or is it more of a “what<br />

if” scenario. If there was a more positive way of<br />

looking at the thought or problem, what would<br />

it be?<br />

The most important thing to do is find your own<br />

way of challenging your thoughts, everyone does<br />

it differently so take some time to find what<br />

works for you. The more you do it, the better<br />

you’ll get at it.<br />
