• Direct traffic comes from people directly visiting your website by
entering the web address into their browser.
• Where to get direct traffic? Word of mouth – Tell your friends and family
to spread the word.
• Put your business cards into library books.
• Put your website onto free advertising websites such as YELP and
Craigslist.

• Social traffic comes from social media sites. Probably one of the
easiest source of traffic.
• Create a Facebook page and post on it, also post on Facebook groups.
• Tweet your new articles on Twitter.
• Share your post on related sub-reddits.
• Google also has their own social platform called Google Plus.
• Create an infographic and share it on Pinterest.

• Referral traffic comes from links on another website.
• You can wait for people to build that link, or the better way is to build it
yourself.
• Scoop.it is a content curation platform, and one of the easiest to build
referral traffic.
• Flipboard is also a similar content curation website.
• You can also share your post on forums, but do not spam.
• You can answer questions on sites such as Quora, and find opportunity
to link to your article.

• Organic traffic results from website searches. This is probably one of
the most difficult to score, but best source of free traffic.
• There is no shortcut in gaining organic traffic.
• You need to write good content, and answer people’s questions.
• Share and promote that article promptly.
• If you generate enough good signals to the search engines, your
articles will eventually show up on search results, and you will get free
organic traffic.

• Email traffic is hardest to get. You need an email list to start emailing
people.
• Email lists are normally collected over time on your website.
• But you can always start by emailing your distant friends by telling
them about your website.
• There are also free email lists on the Internet, but don’t count on those
to give you too much.

• These are unverified methods found all over the Internet and does not
fit into any category.
• You can sign up for social exchange programs such as Viral Content
Bee – Your share articles created by other people, and in turn, they will
share yours.
• Join “Help a Reporter Out” (HARO). You might get lucky sometimes,
and get your article published – free publicity.
