Following the opening <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Phoenix</strong><br />
Valley Metro Rail in December 2008,<br />
reserve police <strong>of</strong>ficers were deployed<br />
as supplemental transit police <strong>of</strong>ficers,<br />
and they frequently provided police<br />
security and other services on the light<br />
rail trains and at train stations.<br />
In 2009, reserve police <strong>of</strong>ficers<br />
donated over 39,000 hours <strong>of</strong><br />
police services.<br />
In January 2010, the Arizona Republic<br />
newspaper featured an article about<br />
one <strong>of</strong> the women reserve police<br />
<strong>of</strong>ficers, describing her commitment<br />
and service, and the police<br />
department’s recruitment campaign to<br />
hire more reserve police <strong>of</strong>ficers.<br />
Officer Amy Floyd #R1013 explained that the more difficult calls for service motivated her to learn as much as possible to<br />
be an effective police <strong>of</strong>ficer. “A lot <strong>of</strong> time you see people at their worst, unfortunately,” she said.<br />
“<strong>The</strong>re’s definitely a human side to things,” Officer Floyd explained. “Obviously me being a mom, there’s a piece <strong>of</strong> my<br />
heart that goes out to people with small children.”<br />
