DIFFERENCE<br />
In addition to providing day-to-day<br />
police services, reserve police <strong>of</strong>ficers<br />
have also frequently been involved<br />
in many valorous and life saving<br />
situations. For example, one reserve<br />
police <strong>of</strong>ficer subdued an armed<br />
suspect who intended to shoot an<br />
automatic weapon into a crowded<br />
food court at a busy shopping mall<br />
one Friday night. <strong>The</strong> suspect was<br />
shot by a career police <strong>of</strong>ficer, as<br />
the reserve police <strong>of</strong>ficer struggled<br />
with the suspect. <strong>The</strong> reserve police<br />
<strong>of</strong>ficer and the two career police<br />
<strong>of</strong>ficers were recognized nationally<br />
as three <strong>of</strong> the nation’s ten Top<br />
Cops during the annual prestigious<br />
ceremony in Washington, D.C.<br />
In response to the first police<br />
broadcasted Amber Alert within<br />
the City <strong>of</strong> <strong>Phoenix</strong>, a reserve<br />
police lieutenant on routine patrol<br />
sighted the suspect vehicle, detained<br />
the suspect and rescued the two<br />
kidnapped young children who<br />
were unharmed.<br />
A reserve police motorcycle <strong>of</strong>ficer<br />
observed three suspects fleeing from<br />
the scene <strong>of</strong> a bank robbery. That<br />
<strong>of</strong>ficer, with the overhead assistance<br />
<strong>of</strong> a reserve police helicopter pilot<br />
who was piloting the on-duty police<br />
helicopter, were instrumental in<br />
the apprehension <strong>of</strong> three armed<br />
robbery suspects who had committed<br />
numerous armed robberies throughout<br />
the <strong>Phoenix</strong> metropolitan area.<br />
Over the years, many reserve police<br />
<strong>of</strong>ficers have earned commendations<br />
and departmental awards for<br />
valor, merit and lifesaving. Each<br />
year, reserve police <strong>of</strong>ficers are<br />
recognized for their accomplishments<br />
and achievements at the police<br />
department’s annual awards<br />
ceremony, and at reserve division<br />
award ceremonies.<br />
