as Wheelton Village but was then known as Scotsons Forge. The Forge still stands
as an historical site called “the Scotson Forge”.
Another group of the “Scotson family” settled in the area of Wigan where
they established a farm called “the Scotson Fold.” This site established in the late
1400’s still stands today as an historical site and operated as a pet hotel. The
original farm had a coal mine and a woolen mill on site. The building which once
held the woolen mill still stands, however the coal mine has since been covered .
The original home built in the 1400’s still stands to this day. Later descendants of
these Scotsons worked in coal mines in Radcliff and in woolen mills in the Wigan
area.
My grandfather said, “Three generations ago my great great grandparents
came over from England and settled in the area of Great Falls MT where my
grandfather worked in coal mines in Monarch MT. My father, Jack Scotson, then
moved to Harlowton MT and worked as a machinist on the Milwaukee Railroad. I,
Walter Scotson was born and raised in Harlowton, went to college in Bozeman MT
worked at several different jobs in and around central MT including Billings MT
where my son Joshua Scotson was born. I moved after becoming a pastor and
starting a church in Lewistown MT where my son Joshua met and married Alice
Edwards. They moved to Las Vegas where Emilia was born.[sic]”
