Chantelle Cameron a
knockout Career...

Northampton’s Chantelle
Cameron looks like being one
lady who will most certainly
enhance the cause of women’s
boxing in the next couple
of years. After having a
stellar career in the amateurs
Cameron made the decision
to turn her attention and her
considerable ring skills to the
punch for pay code. Cameron
hence made her professional
debut on the 26 May 2017
at the Motorpoint Arena in
Cardiff, Wales. Poland’s Karina
Kopinska was the opponent
coming out of the opposite
corner to do battle. Kopinska
was not what you would call an
exceptional fighter she came
to the UK with a record of nine
victories sixteen defeats and
three draws. This was a bout
Cameron was expected to
win and true to form she did
so in fine style romping home
to gain a six round point’s
decision.
After two more victories in
the months which followed
Cameron went for her first
championship when on the 11
November 2017 she contested
the vacant International Boxing
Organisations Inter-Continental
Super-featherweight title. This
contest took place at the Royal
Highland Centre in Edinburgh
Scotland. Edith Ramos of
Mexico with a slate of six wins
one defeat and one draw
stepped between the ropes to
swop punches with the Briton
in the hope that she would
emerge the new champion.
Ramos showed willing during
the contest but Cameron
proved too much for the visitor
stopping her in the third round
of a scheduled ten.
In her very next bout on
the 2 December 2017
Cameron moved up a
weight division to fight for
the vacant International
Boxing Organisations world
lightweight crown. The contest
took place at the Leicester
Arena in Leicester and the
opposition came in the shape
of Viviane Obenauf who was
born in Brazil. Obenauf looked
to be a tough assignment
with a resume of twelve wins
and three defeats. However
a confident Cameron looked
impressive and proved her
class with her opponent
retiring in round six of a
scheduled ten.
The first defence of the world
title by Cameron took place
on the 3 March 2018 against
Myriam Dellal of France who
came with a record of 15
victories seven defeats and
three draws. At the SSE Hydro
in Glasgow Scotland Cameron
proved superior gaining a ten
round point’s decision over
her experienced foe in an
entertaining contest. To her
credit a determined Dellal took
some solid combinations from
Cameron during the bout but
refused to wilt and showed
courage to last the distance.
Cameron is promoted by
Cyclone Promotions headed
by the legendary former WBA
world, British and European
featherweight champion Barry
McGuigan a man who really
knows the game. McGuigan
has that vital experience
gained from being in the ring
himself to guide his charge
to the very top making her
an international name in the
sport. Shane McGuigan Barry’s
son is Cameron’s trainer and
he is acknowledged has being
one of the best trainers in the
boxing world. So Cameron has
an excellent team behind her.
Exciting times lay ahead for
Cameron who will eventually
be pitted against rival world
title holders in unification
bouts. Cameron clearly has the
skill set to succeed when such
challenging fights take place.
