Algiers Village Living Communities Challenge Vision Plan

MEETING THE IMPERATIVE
The analysis shows that this imperative can be mostly met via existing and proposed services. The following items will
need additional work to meet this imperative:
• exploring establishing community tool sharing and book library,
• car and bike sharing program or alternative program, and
• a preservation plan.
In the proposed concept plans for
Algiers, there is a strong emphasis on
providing community services that
are relevant to the residents of not
only Algiers Village but of the Town of
Guilford and neighboring Brattleboro
to the north.
Below are the suite of new proposed
buildings and/or public spaces that
contribute to a healthy and happy
public space.
Adjacent to the wetland and forest
system off Partridge Road on the
GPI property is a proposed early
education school and/or child day care
center. This new building fits within the
acceptable footprint of the delineated
wetlands, and accesses nearby trails.
(There has also been some discussion
of the original intent of this propoerty
for much-needed senior housing in
the Village. This should still remain an
option for development, if not enough
units are found within the Village
center.)
Community pavilion, which can be
accessed by any of the nearby
services via a short footpath or on
the sidewalk.
Community / Senior center,
supported by CC4G. This would
host community events and provide
resources to the community.
New park, as a pedestrian cutthrough
to the community services
from Route 5, and overall pleasant
public space.
