And after reading this, if you said to yourself „yaay, swimming“ or „oh my, not water again...“ then yes, you are right. Water
was next. Lara had to find her way into the tomb through some narrow underwater tunnels. How simple it was to get lost in
there and drown. Speaking about the swimming—it will be way more important than in Rise. Do you remember all those
frustrating, long tunnels, full of various turnings and twists in classics Tomb Raider titles? So this is what will return in Shadow,
with more fights against the time - there are no more oxygen meters. You just steal a bit of air in the air pockets, recognizable
only by the light beams in the dark, or boulders, which will fall down exactly at the moment when Lara is passing by.
This takes a lot of Lara‘s air, and so you have to tap the buttons rapidly for her to get free… this and much more lurks in the
waters of Shadow.
Even if Lara, as usual, gets free just in the last moment, we did broke a sweat here. There is one more thing for me to focus
on—the voiceovers. For me personally, Camilla Luddington is the right choice for Lara‘s voice. In the Reboot, I was quite
okay with Lara as she was portrayed— me being in her boots, I would not survive five minutes in that place. In Rise though,
there were some moments when even I was annoyed by her overreacting. It seems that developers are listening to our
feedback: Lara just barely escaped alive from the water traps, and she did cough and gasp for air (logically), but that was it.
No more „oh God“ moaning. Lara simply IS more mature and ready and, possibly, she now accepts the risks that come to
her way. I hope it will stay this way.
And we are inside the anticipated tomb. Confirming the dev team words—we did get here on our way, no side tracks,
smoothly during the location progress.
HOOLY SH… were my feelings, when after a few steps Lara was impaled by wooden spikes so powerful that she remained
hanging on them… How many times did she die already? I did comment that I should had taken notes about how many
times and in how many ways Lara was killed… and because there were Eidos developers present in the gaming area, they
burst into laughter. Yep, THEY WERE designing this...I would laugh too in their place. On my second try I looked more carefully,
finding the tight rope on the floor. Lara cut the rope with the knife she had with her—and this time I was luckier. Lara
just ducked and she passed successfully.
