The eighth annual Paws for Peace<br />

Walk was a success. Hundreds<br />

of walkers turned out, raising more<br />

than $50,000 for Harbor House<br />

of Central Florida to keep pets<br />

and their owners safe from abuse.<br />

Representatives of the United<br />

States Tennis Association announced<br />

that the organization will<br />

partner with the American Tennis<br />

Association to host the 101st ATA<br />

National Championships at the<br />

USTA National Campus from July<br />

28-Aug. 4. The annual weeklong<br />

event will be attended by more than<br />

2,500 participants and visitors.<br />

Known as an annual cultural and tennis<br />

family reunion, the ATA National<br />

Championships will now be held at<br />

the USTA National Campus every<br />

three to four years.<br />

As the oldest African-American<br />

sports organization in the country,<br />

the ATA was founded in 1916 with<br />

a mission to promote black tennis<br />

in America, as a result of African-<br />

Americans being barred from<br />

and men’s doubles. Today, the ATA<br />

National Championships has grown<br />

to include 50 competitive categories<br />

with thousands of competitors, ranging<br />

from ages 10-80.<br />

Dr. Phillips High School’s<br />

women’s water polo had three<br />

players named to the All-Metro West<br />

first team: sophomore Samantha<br />

Horency and seniors Caroline<br />

Grzeszczak and Bailey Valdes.<br />

Senior Emma Hallson and<br />

sophomore Hope Miller were<br />

named honorable mention All-<br />

Metro West. Men’s water polo<br />

also had three players earn first<br />

team All-Metro West: juniors Dan<br />

Magrino, Max Meisenheimer<br />

and James Sweet. Juniors<br />

Gavin Collins and Gabe Madej<br />

were named honorable mention<br />

All-Metro West.<br />

There will be several coaching<br />

changes for the next academic year.<br />

Men’s and women’s swimming<br />

and diving head coach Natalie<br />

Nickson, a DPHS graduate, will<br />

step down to focus on graduate<br />

school. Assistant coach Leonardo<br />

Leon Ramirez has been promoted<br />

to head coach. Men’s and women’s<br />

golf head coach Tony Wilson,<br />

who has been with the Panthers since<br />
