ROYAL HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY COURSES<br />

RHS PRACTICAL HORTICULTURE LEVEL 2 CERTIFICATE<br />

A 100% fee reduction may apply to you if in receipt of benefits and actively seeking employment<br />

This course is perfect for gardeners who are keen to expand their knowledge and gain qualifications to start a<br />

career in horticulture. You will focus on developing essential horticultural skills that not only offer opportunities for<br />

employment, but also provide the foundation for further skills development at Level 3. Units include soil testing,<br />

ground preparation, propagation techniques, establishment, care & pruning of plants and the identification of a<br />

range of common garden plants, weeds, pests, diseases, disorders and beneficial organisms. You will carry out<br />

assessed practicals, plant identification tests and also produce written evidence including risk assessments.<br />

You will attend <strong>College</strong> one Saturday class per month:<br />

In <strong>2018</strong> the classes run on: 29 September, 13 October, 10 November and 8 December<br />

In 20<strong>19</strong> the classes run on: 12 January, 9 February, 9 March, 30 March, 04 May, 18 May, 8 June and 6 July.<br />

RHS THEORY (PRINCIPLES OF GARDEN PLANNING, ESTABLISHMENT<br />

& MAINTENANCE) LEVEL 2 CERTIFICATE<br />

This course is perfect for the serious gardener keen to expand their knowledge and an ideal qualification to start<br />

a career in horticulture. The full Certificate is made up of two parts spread over a 2 year period. <strong>Part</strong> 1 starts in<br />

October <strong>2018</strong> and you will study the principles of garden planning, establishment and maintenance. The remaining<br />

part starts in October 20<strong>19</strong> and covers plant propagation, plant health, soils, plant structure and classification.<br />

Assessment is through a formal written examination at the end of each section. On completion of both parts<br />

(over two years), you gain the full Level 2 Theory Certificate. We also offer the RHS Practical Horticulture Level 2<br />

Certificate.<br />

RHS PRACTICAL HORTICULTURE LEVEL 3 CERTIFICATE<br />

Level 3 Entitlement or an Advanced Learner Loan may apply to you<br />

This course is perfect if you have already achieved the Level 2 Certificate but are keen to expand your knowledge<br />

and skills in horticulture. It is strongly recommended that you have completed the RHS Level 2 Certificate in<br />

Practical Horticulture or equivalent before you begin the course. This course offers you advanced practical<br />

horticultural skills that not only provide opportunities for employment, but also provide the foundation for further<br />

skills development. You will carry out assessed practicals, plant identification tests and also produce evidence<br />

including risk assessments. The course includes a number of mandatory units including: collecting and testing soil<br />

samples and specifying adjustments for horticulture, collecting, preparing and propagating from seed, establishing<br />

and maintaining a range of plant types and forms, Identification of a range of common garden plants, weeds, pests,<br />

diseases and disorders and one optional unit.<br />

You will attend <strong>College</strong> one Thursday class per month:<br />

In <strong>2018</strong> the classes run on: 27 September, 11 October, 08 November and 6 December<br />

In 20<strong>19</strong> the classes run on: 10 January, 7 February, 7 March, 28 March, 02 May, 16 May, 6 June and 4 July.<br />
