Looking Up and Out
Positive factors are blossoming across
the out islands, as well. The longawaited
renovation of South Caicos
airport is well underway, supporting
visitor arrivals to the thriving
Sailrock and East Bay resorts there.
Completed is construction of the control
tower, resurfacing of the apron
and taxiway, a new lighting system
and perimeter fencing. Plans are to
move forward with the terminal facility
in the future.
Sailrock is South Caicos’ premier
luxury resort nestled along the island’s
pristine beaches, thriving coral reefs (a
diver’s and fisher’s paradise) and miles
of undiscovered land. Completed
are Ridgetop Suites and Beachfront
Villas, supported by two restaurants,
an infinity pool and a newly opened
spa.
On North Caicos, it appears
that the long-abandoned Royal Reef
Resort has secured a new investor
to rebuild the potentially one-of-akind
Sandy Point property. In late
April 2018, it was announced that
Chinese developer Guo Liang Tian
had acquired the Royal Reef Resort
& Spa and will be working along
with the community of North Caicos
to further development of the island,
including offering scholarships to
students to study in China. The
investment follows the work of Invest
Turks and Caicos through international
promotions.
On Middle Caicos, the new
owners of Blue Horizon Resort, now
Dragon Cay Resort, report a good
winter/spring season. They have plans
underway for the vacant properties to
the west of the resort.
